Synthio Chemicals, LLC

About

Creativity. Skill. Experience.

History

Synthio was founded in 2017 by serial entrepreneurs Christine Martin and Jerry Martin and their long-time partner Joe Poshusta. All three are seasoned entrepreneurs, with decades of experience in high-technology startups. They have worked together as a management team through three successful startups, including two acquired by other firms.

Synthio's technology traces is history back to 1999, when Joe joined Jerry and Christine at Mesoscopic Devices, adding his expertise in compact chemical reactors to the company's deep strengths in microchannel heat exchangers. Joe led Mesoscopic Devices' expansion into fuel reformers and desulfurizers, paving the way for the company's successful line of portable solid oxide fuel cells.  Mesoscopic Devices was acquired in 2008 by Protonex and is now part of Ballard Power Corporation. In 2010 the team founded DellaTech to commercialize process intensification techniques in multiple industries.

DellaTech developed novel ionic liquid and lithium salt synthesis technology, which it commercialized through its spin-off Boulder Ionics Corporation in 2010. After raising private, family office and venture funding, Boulder Ionics was acquired by CoorsTek, an early investor and strategic partner, and renamed CoorsTek Fluorochemicals. In 2016, following the Coors family's decision to exit the fine chemicals business, the Boulder Ionics executive team returned to DellaTech to continue their development of novel chemical process equipment. In 2017, DellaTech spun off Synthio Chemicals, LLC to commercialize novel advanced manufacturing approaches for fine chemicals, with Dr. Poshusta joining as a founder and full partner.

VP OPERATIONS

Christine Martin

Christine Martin began her career as an engineer building two-phase flow sensors for microgravity operations. From this high-flying start, she went on to become a principal investigator on programs for DoD, DOE and NASA, and then went on to found four companies (Mesoscopic Devices, Boulder Ionics, DellaTech and Synthio Chemicals), leading operations and rapid growth, including negotiating and managing tens of millions of dollars in research contracts for commercial and government clients. Christine's experience in building hardware, teams and managing complex development programs enables Synthio to deliver unparalled value to our clients.
